RINOs and DINOs

Two RINOs (Republican In Name Only) lost their seat in the elections: Sen. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island and Congressman Jim Leach of Iowa.

In 2004 an article in The Nation (Democrat-leaning) said: "Using the measures that progressives might reasonably apply to define a liberal... it is possible to point to just one [current Republican] senator, Rhode Island's Lincoln Chafee, and two members of the House, New York's Amo Houghton and Iowa's Jim Leach" (src). Amo Houghton retired two years ago and was replaced with a more conservative Republican Congressman. Lincoln Chafee was unseated by approx. 7% majority by Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse. Jim Leach was unseated by David Loebsack 51.4%-48.6%.

According to this, all three "real" RINOs have been replaced. Two of them in these elections by a Democrat. Joe Lieberman, however, often considered a Democrat in name only (DINO), kept his seat. He probably got a lot of both DINO and RINO votes :)
